Ankara Press is looking for full-length commercial fiction and nonfiction by Black writers from across the globe. We want joyful, strange, tender, sexy, hilarious, haunting, hopeful books that reflect the complexity of Black life and keep readers glued to the page. If your story makes people laugh out loud, cry in public, or text their group chat right after reading, we want to hear from you.
We’re looking for smart, swoony romances; bold, character-driven women’s fiction; unforgettable horror and twisty thrillers; vision-rich sci-fi and fantasy; fresh, voicey nonfiction; and middle grade stories filled with humour, heart and Black kids being fully themselves. We want self-reinvention, morally grey anti-heroes, intergenerational hauntings, sexy mage rivals, cults and corruption, summer camp sagas, folk horror, monster boyfriends, and much more. If your book is driven by voice, emotion, tension, and a love for storytelling, you’re speaking our language.
We read every submission. If we don’t feel your work is right for us, we’ll send a standard rejection letter – we’re unable to provide personalised feedback. If we’re excited, we’ll be in touch to talk next steps. Please know that we only publish authors we believe we can build something meaningful with — a long-term relationship grounded in shared values, mutual respect and commitment to the process. Publishing a book is a journey. If you’re ready to show up for it, we’re ready to read.
